Dean Drops DH at Simmons

BOSTON, Mass. – April 5, 2023 - The Dean College softball team was defeated by Simmons in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader Wednesday. The Sharks won 9-1 and 8-0.  

Dean (2-15-1, 1-5 GNAC) is slated to host Lasell on Thursday. 

GAME ONE: Simmons 9, Dean 1 (5 inn.)

The home team opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the second. 

Dean broke through in the third when senior Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) singled home senior Sarah Graeff (Petersham, Mass.) who reached on a walk. 

Simmons answered in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI double by Maddie Castigliego. 

The Sharks took an 8-1 run after scoring four times in the fourth on five hits and a couple of errors. 

Leah Connor had an RBI single for Simmons to make the score 9-1 and end the game in the fifth via the 8-run rule. 


GAME TWO: Simmons 8, Dean 0 (5 inn.)

Simmons scored an unearned run in the first to take an early lead. 

The Sharks added four runs in the third on four hits and an error. Emma Thacher knocked in a run on a single and then scored on a wild pitch. 

In the fourth, Simmons plated three to take an 8-0 lead. Jordyn Rubin and Shannon McMahon each had an RBI triple in the inning. 

Piper Kinney closed the door in the fifth to secure the win for Simmons. She finished with seven strikeouts in the shutout. 

Junior Jilian Glynn (Londonderry, N.H.) recorded Dean's lone hit of the contest.
