NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 29, 2023 – The Dean College baseball team won its season finale in convincing fashion by a 17-2 score at Colby-Sawyer on Saturday. Game two of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader was canceled.
Dean just missed a postseason spot with a GNAC record of 6-11 and an overall mark of 9-28. Colby-Sawyer ends its season at 8-25 overall and 4-13 in the GNAC.
The Bulldogs belted 20 hits, including a pair of home runs. First-year
Tyler Giambra (Prospect, Conn.) went 3 for 3 with his first collegiate home run, three runs and three RBIs. Sophomore
Cam Watkins (East Haddam, Conn.) also hit a home run to finish 3 for 5. Sophomore
Seth Cruz (East Freetown, Mass.) was 4 for 5 with four runs and two RBIs. First-year
Nick Amendolara (Bayville, N.Y.) went 3 for 4 with three runs and two RBIs, while first-year
Jacob Paschetto (East Longmeadow, Mass.) knocked in four on a couple of hits.
Junior
Kyle Simpson (Prospect, Conn.) earned the win with 5 IP, 2 ER, 5 H and 4 K. First-year
Hunter Espinosa (East Haddam, Conn.) tossed two scoreless innings of relief and struck out four.
Senior
Brian Dovidio (Ramsey, N.J.) had a couple of RBIs and a hit to finish with a single-season record of 54 hits. Today's hit also gave him 100 for his career. He led the team with a .391 batting average which was good for top-5 among GNAC players.
Dean scored at least one run in six of the seven innings played today.
The biggest inning came in the fifth when the Bulldogs plated six runs. Watkins hit a two-run homer, while Paschetto knocked in a pair with a double to left.
Giambra hit a solo home run for Dean's lone tally in the seventh.
Colby-Sawyer scored single runs in the fourth and fifth on a Ben Brennan RBI single and a Devin Montalvo RBI ground out.
