NASHUA, N.H. – April 25, 2023 – The Dean College baseball team fell to Rivier in a pair of 1-run Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) games at Holman Stadium Tuesday night. Rivier walked off for a 3-2 win in game one and took game two 5-4.
Dean (8-26, 5-11 GNAC) will play a non-conference game at Western New England tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. Rivier (11-22, 8-8 GNAC) hosts Emerson on Thursday.
GAME ONE – Rivier 3, Dean 2
The Bulldogs plated a run in their first at-bat when senior
Brayden McLaughlin (Forest Grove, Ore.) singled home first-year
Jacob Paschetto (East Longmeadow, Mass.).
Rivier quickly answered with a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI double to the gap from Zachary White.
Dylan Aliberti gave the Raiders a 2-1 lead in the second with an RBI single to left.
Dean tied the game in the fifth inning. Sophomore
Cam Watkins (East Haddam, Conn.) singled to left to score McLaughlin.
In the bottom of the seventh, Rivier scored the game-winning run on a failed pickoff attempt. Owen Medlock came in on the play after previously leading off the inning with a triple.
Dean senior
Andrew Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.) went 3 for 3 to lead the Bulldog batters. McLaughlin finished 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI.
Frank Gulezian had three hits to lead the Raiders.
Anthony Morro earned the complete game victory with two runs on eight hits and five strikeouts.
First-year
Mason Neumann (Middletown, Conn.) suffered the complete game loss with three runs allowed on eight hits and six strikeouts.
GAME TWO – Rivier 5, Dean 4
Dean scored single runs in the first and third thanks to a pair of wild pitches. Senior
Brian Dovidio (Ramsey, N.J.) and first-year
Tyler Giambra (Prospect, Conn.) scored for the Bulldogs.
Rivier got runs back in the fourth and fifth to tie the game at 2-2. White doubled home Aliberti in the fourth, while Medlock scored on a sac fly by Jacob Boudreau.
The Raiders took a 5-2 lead with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Aliberti plated a pair with a double down the left field line. He later scored on an error.
Dean answered with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth pull within 5-4 but that would be as close as the visitors would get. Watkins knocked in two with a single to center field.
Seven Bulldogs had one hit in the game.
