Softball Falls to Albertus Magnus in GNAC Doubleheader

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – April 2, 2023 - The Dean College softball team lost both ends of Sunday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader at Albertus Magnus.  

Albertus (9-11, 2-0 GNAC) took the first game 16-0 in five innings and followed with an 8-2 triumph in game two. Dean (2-13-1, 1-3 GNAC) resumes action on Wednesday at Simmons.

GAME ONE: Albertus Magnus 16, Dean 0 (5 inn.)

In their first at-bat, the Falcons scored 10 runs on eight hits and four walks to take a commanding lead.

Albertus would score six more times in the fourth to account for the 16-0 final.

Senior Alex Marie (Danvers, Mass.), junior Jilian Glynn (Londonderry, N.H.) and senior Gianna Bencivengo (White Plains, N.Y.) each had a hit for Dean.

Anna Leone led the Falcons with a 3 for 3 effort at the plate, including a grand slam, and six RBIs.

GAME TWO: Albertus Magnus 8, Dean 2

Albertus struck first with a run in the bottom of the second.

Dean answered in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead. First-year Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.) knocked in senior Sarah Graeff (Petersham, Mass.), who earlier reached on a single. Ramos later scored on an error.

The Falcons then scored three times in their half of the third to capture a 4-2 lead.

Albertus added to the lead in the fourth with a pair of runs and tacked on another pair in the sixth to secure the 8-2 victory.
