WELLESLEY, Mass. – April 19, 2023 - The Dean College softball team fell at Wellesley 7-6 and 4-2 on Wednesday.
Dean (3-24-1) will host Fisher on Saturday at 1 p.m. and celebrate senior day.
GAME ONE: Wellesley 7, Dean 6
Dean struck first with an RBI double from senior
Alex Marie (Danvers, Mass.) in the top of the first.
Wellesley (6-17-1) answered in the bottom half of the inning with a run on an error.
The Bulldogs went in front 3-1 lead in the third after an RBI groundout from senior
Gianna Bencivengo (White Plains, N.Y.) and an RBI single by junior
Jilian Glynn (Londonderry, N.H.).
The Blue plated four runs on three RBI singles and an RBI double to take a 5-3 lead after four innings.
In the sixth, Wellesley added an insurance run on a run scoring double by senior Ingrid Hsu (San Ramon, Calif.).
Dean was able to rally in the top of the seventh and come back to tie the game at 6-6. Glynn brought in a run with a double. Senior
Sarah Graeff (Petersham, Mass.) then knocked in senior
Zoe Coleman (Warwick, R.I.) to make the score 6-5. Glynn eventually scored the tying run on a single by junior
Meredith Landers (Littleton, Mass.).
In the Wellesley half of the seventh, first year Chiara Lundin (Piedmont, Calif.) had the game-winning hit when she doubled home Andrea Delgado (Miami, Fla.) for the 7-6 victory.
Marie went 3 for 4 to lead the Bulldogs. Bencivengo, Glynn and Landers each had two hits.
GAME TWO: Wellesley 4, Dean 2
Wellesley posted an unearned run in the second for the 1-0 lead.
The Blue doubled their lead with a run in the fifth on an RBI single from Elli DeCleene.
Aniko Alexander (Gaithersburg, Md.) put the home team on top 4-0 in the sixth with a two-run blast over the fence.
The Bulldogs kept battling in the seventh and scored twice, but could not complete the comeback. Both runs scored on the same play with an RBI being credited on a single by sophomore
Shirley Chan (Kowloon, Hong Kong) with the other coming in on an error.
Glynn and Graeff had two hits apiece for the Bulldogs.
