Albury Hits Two Home Runs to Help Dean Split with Saint Joseph

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – April 16, 2023 - The Dean College softball team split a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) South games at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) on Sunday. USJ won game one 9-1 (6 inn.), while Dean answered with a 9-0 (5 inn.) victory in game two.

Dean (3-22-1, 1-9 GNAC SOUTH) will play at Wellesley on Wednesday. USJ (16-15, 4-4 GNAC SOUTH) will host Anna Maria on Saturday.

GAME ONE: USJ 9, Dean 1 (6 inn.)

The home team put the first run on the board in the second on an RBI triple from McKenzie Fairfax.

USJ went on top by a 3-0 score in the third on a pair of RBI singles.

Dean cut into the lead with a run in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by senior Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas), which scored first-year Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.).

The Blue Jays answered with a pair in the bottom of the fifth on a couple of RBI doubles.

In the home half of the sixth, Alyssa Roberts hit a grand slam to end the game for a 9-1 USJ victory.

Ramos and junior Jilian Glynn (Londonderry, N.H.) each went 2 for 3 for the Bulldogs.

GAME TWO: Dean 9, USJ 0 (5 inn.)

In game two, Sari Albury shined at the plate for Dean. Albury went 2 for 3 with two home runs, six RBIs and three runs scored. She hit four home runs in four games this weekend to give her seven on the year, which leads the GNAC.

Jilian Glynn also dazzled in the circle, tossing a complete game one-hitter with two strikeouts to earn the victory.

Dean got the scoring going in the first when senior Sarah Graeff (Petersham, Mass.) singled home Albury.

In the third, Albury hit a two-run long ball that scored senior Alex Marie (Danvers, Mass.).

The Bulldogs put the game out of reach in the fourth with six more runs. Ramos and Marie each knocked in a run by walking with the bases loaded. Albury then stepped into the box, with the bases still loaded, and hit a grand slam to put Dean on top by a 9-0 score.

Glynn did the rest by retiring the next six USJ batters in the fourth and fifth innings to end the game.

Marie was 2 for 2 with two runs and an RBI.
