Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Concludes Trip to South Carolina

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - March 8, 2023 - The Dean College softball team wrapped up an 8-game, four-day trip to South Carolina on Wednesday with contests against Penn State Mont Alto and Delaware Valley.

The Bulldogs (0-7-1) fell to Penn State (4-1) 10-2 in five innings and then tied DelVal (1-3-1) 10-10.

DEAN 10, DELAWARE VALLEY 10

The Aggies (1-3-1) scored three times in the first inning before Dean answered with a run on an RBI by first-year Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.).

DelVal added two runs in the fourth on an RBI triple and a sac fly and two more in the fifth on a run-scoring double and a miscue to take a 7-1 lead.

Dean erupted to score six times in the bottom of the fifth to knot the game at 7-7. The Bulldogs benefited from five walks, a couple wild pitches and three hits in the inning. Senior Alex Marie (Danvers, Mass.) had the big hit in the inning, knocking in two runs with a double down the line. Marie then scored on an RBI single by junior Jilian Glynn (Londonderry, N.H.).

After a scoreless sixth inning, the Aggies retook the lead in the seventh (10-7) with three runs on a homer, a triple and an infield single.

In the bottom of the seventh, Ramos doubled in Marie then scored on a Jessica Stewart (Banks, Ore.) single to make the game 10-9. Senior Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) then scored on a wild pitch to score the tying run, but the Bulldogs thought they had won the game and began running off the field. A runner was tagged out to end the inning.

There was a discrepancy in score as each team had a different tally in their respective scorebooks as Dean had an additional run recorded in the third to give them a total of 11.

It was determined by the umpires that Dean was the victor as the home team. Later in the evening, the ruling was overturned by the tournament director and they would continue the game where it left off. However, since this was the Bulldogs' last game in South Carolina and they had already left the field, the game was deemed a tie.

PENN STATE 10, DEAN 2 (5 inn.)

Sari Albury got the Bulldogs on the board with an RBI single in the top of the third.

Penn State then erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the third and added a run in the fourth to take an 8-1 lead.

Zoe Coleman (Warwick, R.I.) knocked in Dean's second run in the top of the fifth.

The Nittany Lions scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to earn the 10-2 victory.
