BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. - March 18, 2023 - The Dean College softball team dropped both ends of a Saturday doubleheader at Massachusetts Maritime (5-5) via the walk-off. The Bucs won game one 5-4 in their final at-bat and then 9-8 in the bottom of the ninth.
The Bulldogs (0-9-1) travel to Curry next Friday for a twin bill beginning at 3 p.m.
GAME ONE - Maritime 5 , Dean 4
Ab'c'de Patane put the home team on top with a two-run double in the first.
Dean got a run back in the second when sophomore
Shirley Chan (Kowloon, Hong Kong) singled in junior
Jilian Glynn (Londonderry, N.H.).
Patane gave the Bucs a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the third with a two-run blast to right field.
Senior
Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) had an RBI double in the fifth, that scored first-year
Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.), to cut the deficit to 4-2.
The Bulldogs knotted the score at 4-4 in the top of the seventh. Senior
Alex Marie (Danvers, Mass.) made the score 4-3 by knocking in junior
Meredith Landers (Littleton, Mass.) with a double to right. Marie then came around on Albury's third hit of the game to tie the score.
In the bottom of the seventh, Erin Donlan led off with a triple. She then scored on a Kelsey Booker sacrifice fly to end the game 5-4.
Albury finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs.
Gianna Bencivengo (White Plains, N.Y.) also had three hits in three at-bats.
GAME TWO: Maritime 9, Dean 8 (9 inn.)
Dean took a 1-0 lead with a Glynn RBI in the first. The Bulldogs added a pair in the fourth on a Marie single. The lead ballooned to 6-0 in the sixth with two runs on an Albury double and a Bencivengo single.
The Bucs scored five times in the bottom of the sixth to make it a one run ballgame.
Maritime tied the game in the seventh with an RBI single from Carleen Harring.
After a scoreless eighth frame, the Bulldogs would plate a pair in the eighth.
The home team answered once again and scored three times to earn a second walk-off of the day.
Bencivengo continued her great day at the plate with three more hits and two RBIs. Glynn went 3 for 6, while Marie went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Ramos scored three times and added a couple of hits. Sophomore
Jessica Stewart (Banks, Ore.) also finished with two hits.
