FRANKLIN, Mass. - March 29, 2023 - The Dean College softball team split a doubleheader with Anna Maria as both teams began Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Wednesday. Dean (2-11-1, 1-1 GNAC) won the first game 8-6, while Anna Maria (3-10, 1-1 GNAC) took game two 9-2 in five innings due to darkness.
GAME ONE: Dean 8, Anna Maria 6
The ball was flying in game one as there were three total home runs hit in the contest.
After Anna Maria scored on an error in the second, Madison-Marie Romano (Lebanon, Maine) belted a two-run homer to left to put the visitors on top 3-0.
In the bottom of the third, it was Dean's turn to hit one over the fence. Before the long ball, first-yearÂ
Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.) tripled in
Jaylee Martinez (Pawtucket, R.I.) and then scored on an
Alex Marie (Danvers, Mass.) single to make the game 3-2. With two baserunners on, seniorÂ
Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) stepped into the box and ripped a deep ball over the center field fence to give the Bulldogs a 5-3 lead.
In the fifth, Albury hit an even farther ball over the fence in the left center gap to put Dean on top 6-3 with her third home run of the season.
The AMCATS tied things in the sixth with three runs on five hits and an error.
Dean responded in the bottom of the sixth with a pair of runs. Junior pitcher
Jilian Glynn (Londonderry, N.H.) helped herself as she sent a ball into the gap that brought in Marie and Ramos.
Glynn then retired three in a row after a leadoff walk in the seventh to secure the victory for the Bulldogs.
Glynn tossed a complete game and allowed just one earned run.
Albury finished 2 for 3 with four RBIs, two home runs and a walk. Ramos went 3 for 4 with two triples.
GAME TWO: Anna Maria 9, Dean 2 (5 inn.)
The AMCATS plated eight runs on six hits and three errors in the top of the first.
Dean was able to score twice in the bottom of the inning on a
Gianna Bencivengo (White Plains, N.Y.) RBI single and a bases loaded walk by Martinez that scored Glynn.
Anna Maria added a ninth run in the fourth.
After a scoreless fifth inning, the game was called due to darkness as Anna Maria earned the doubleheader split with the 9-2 game two victory.
Sophomore
Jessica Stewart (Banks, Ore.) threw 4 2/3 innings of relief, gave up one earned run and struck out six.
