MILTON, Mass. - March 24, 2023 - The Dean College softball team notched its first win of the season by winning game two of today's non-conference doubleheader at Curry. The Colonels took game one 3-0 and Dean won game two 6-4.

The Bulldogs (1-10-1) will begin conference action on Tuesday at home against Anna Maria.

GAME ONE: Curry 3, Dean 0

Jillian Rogers singled in a run in the first to give Curry an early 1-0 lead.

The home team doubled the lead in the second with an RBI double from Emily Bussiere.

The Colonels added an insurance run in the fifth when Rogers scored on an error.

Dean junior Jilian Glynn (Londonderry, N.H.) threw a complete game and gave up two earned runs.

Rogers struck out 11 and allowed two hits in the complete game shutout for the Colonels. She also finished 3 for 3 at the plate.

Senior Alex Marie (Danvers, Mass.) and sophomore Jessica Stewart (Banks, Ore.) each had a double to account for Dean's two hits.

GAME TWO: Dean 6, Curry 4

The Bulldogs struck first with a run in the second. With the bases loaded, senior Jaylee Martinez (Pawtucket, R.I.) knocked in senior Gianna Bencivengo (White Plains, N.Y.) on a fielder's choice.

Dean took a 5-0 lead with four runs in the top of the fifth. Glynn began the rally with a run-scoring single. Senior Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) then knocked in first-year Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.) with an infield single. Sophomore Shirley Chan (Kowloon, Hong Kong) broke things open for the Bulldogs with a two-run double to the gap.

Curry got on the board in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI double by Rogers.

The visitors responded with a run in the sixth to retake a five-run lead. Ramos came in on an Albury groundout.

The Colonels made things interesting in their last at-bat by scoring three times on three hits and some Dean miscues. Stewart came in to close the door and earn the save after getting a pop out to end the game for the Bulldogs, 6-4.
