Rivier Serves Men's Volleyball 3-0 Defeat

FRANKLIN, Mass. – March 1, 2023 – The Dean College men's volleyball team fell to Rivier, 3-0 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match by scores of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-17.

Dean (1-8, 0-4 GNAC) are scheduled to play at Lesley on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Rivier (7-7, 4-1 GNAC) plays a Saturday tri-match at MIT with SUNY New Paltz.

Senior Tyler Martins (East Providence, R.I.) finished with five kills and seven digs to lead the Bulldogs. Sophomore Nunu Jackson (Fresno, Calif.) hit .400 with three kills. First-year Hunter Armitage (Westerly, R.I.) recorded five assists, five digs and a couple of kills.

Rivier was led by senior Thomas Miller (Clifton Park, N.Y.). He posted 11 kills on .625 hitting to go with seven digs and five aces. Freshmen Kythan Ses (Lowell, Mass.) and Matthew McCloskey (Salem, N.H.) each had nine kills and three aces.

The Bulldogs trailed 4-3 to begin the first set before Rivier erupted with seven straight points to take a comfortable lead and went on for the 25-12 win. Izaviah Hong (Lowell, Mass.) had five kills on six attempts to lead the Raiders, while Martins had four kills for Dean.

The second set was tied a couple of times early in the action, including at 7-7. Rivier scored the next three points on a pair of kills and an ace. With the score 14-10, in favor of the visitors, the Raiders used an 11-2 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Dean raced out to a 4-1 lead in the third, but Rivier responded to take a 9-5 advantage after a Ses kill. The Bulldogs later trailed 21-12 but did not give up and went on a 5-2 rally before Rivier ended the set by a 25-17 margin.
