FRANKLIN, Mass. – November 11, 2023 – The Dean College football team was defeated by Alfred State, 55-3, in an Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) regular season finale for both teams.
Dean ends its season at 2-8 overall and 1-3 in conference play. Alfred State goes to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the ECFC standings.
Prior to today's kickoff, Dean College honored its seniors for their hard work and dedication to the football program and the College.
Senior
Jordan Mason (Stockbridge, Ga.) had nine catches for 75 yards. First-year
Dy'riece Smith (Boston, Mass.) caught three balls for 50 yards.
Sophomore
Andrew Liverman (Union City, N.J.) posted a season high 18 tackles to go with a pass breakup. Senior
Des Dias (Rochester, Mass.) was second on the team with eight tackles. Senior
DJ Fahie (Holliston, Mass.) tallied seven tackles.
Junior
Griffin Sullivan (Colchester, Conn.) gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead with a 36-yard field goal, seven minutes into the game.
Alfred State took the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown to take a 6-3 advantage. Freshman Noah Currier (Oakfield, N.Y.) caught the ball at the 12-yardline and beat everyone up the right sideline for the 88-yard return.
The Pioneers added 28 points in the second quarter to lead 34-3 at the half. Senior running back Jake Palmer (Albany, N.Y.) ran the wildcat for most of the frame and came away with touchdown runs of three yards and five yards. Currier added a 36-yard rushing score, while senior Ryan Van Fleet (Endwell, N.Y.) had a 55-yard interception return for a score to account for the Alfred State points. Freshman Maxwell DeMare (Batavia, N.Y.) made all four of his extra point attempts in the second.
The Pioneers opened the scoring in the third quarter with an 88-yard run by Currier for the 41-3 lead. Sophomore quarterback Justin Horvath (Grand Island, N.Y.) then completed a pass to Jazir Francois (Spring Valley, N.Y.) in the right corner of the end zone for a 38-yard hookup.
Alfred State took a 55-3 lead, six minutes into the fourth, on a Horvath to Noah Silfer (Liverpool, N.Y.) 4-yard connection in the end zone. Van Fleet made the extra point.
Palmer finished with 147 yards on the ground and two scores, while Currier had 131 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Senior Jalen White (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 3.5 sacks to lead the Pioneers defense.
