Bulldogs Drop Home Finale to Johnson & Wales, 4-0

FRANKLIN, Mass. – October 22, 2023 – The Dean College field hockey team dropped their final regular season home game to Johnson & Wales (JWU), 4-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Sunday at Grant Field as this weekend's homecoming games concluded.

Dean (2-15, 1-10 GNAC) wraps up the season on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. game at Albertus Magnus. JWU (13-2, 10-1 GNAC) hosts Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. to conclude the regular season.

After more than 12 scoreless minutes to begin the game, the Wildcats broke through with three goals in the remainder of the quarter to lead 3-0. First-year Rayne Millett (Lynn, Mass.) sandwiched a pair of goals around senior Kaitlyn Freeman (Stafford, Va.).

The Dean defense held strong for most of the second quarter before JWU's Zofia Bangs (Stoughton, Mass.) redirected a pass from Margaret Johnson (Bear, Del.) into the back of the cage for the 4-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Wildcats had five shots on target in the third, but Dean senior goalie Mackenzie Fillion (New Bedford, Mass.) was there each time to keep the score at 4-0 after 45 minutes.

JWU was held off the board again in the fourth with seven more saves by Fillion.

Fillion ended the contest with 15 saves for the Bulldogs. JWU first-year goalie Sophia Brea (Windham, N.H.) worked the first half to earn the victory. Sophomore Rebecca Johnson (Basking Ridge, N.J.) played the final two quarters for the Wildcats.
