FRANKLIN, Mass. – October 14, 2023 – The Dean College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at a home tri-match on Saturday inside Pieri Gymnasium. The Bulldogs fell to Worcester State 3-0 (28-26, 28-26, 25-23) before earning a 3-1 win over Eastern Connecticut State (26-24, 25-19, 22-25, 25-22).
Eastern Connecticut won the middle match over Worcester State 3-1 by scores of 27-25, 23-25, 25-22 and 25-23.
Dean (6-15) travels to Rhode Island College on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. first serve. Worcester State (9-12) will host conference foe Westfield State on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Eastern Connecticut State (10-8) returns to Little East Conference action on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. home match against Western Connecticut State.
WORCESTER STATE 3, DEAN 0 – 28-26, 28-26, 25-23
The match was close throughout with a total of 34 ties and 15 lead changes. The Lancers came away with the 3-0 win but needed extra points to secure the first two sets and another 2-point victory in the third.
Dean junior
Emily Larouche (Agawam, Mass.) led all players with a season high 12 kills on .440 hitting. She got the double-double with 15 digs. Senior
Bella Driscoll (Plymouth, Mass.) finished with 24 assists and a couple of aces. Junior
Janai Price (Providence, R.I.) contributed five kills eight digs and three blocks. Sophomore
Skylar Raskevitz (Easthampton, Mass.) posted a match best 27 digs.
Worcester State was led by senior Maeve Cadogan (Wilmington, Mass.). She had nine kills and four blocks. Junior Megan Bardis (Rutland, Mass.) recorded a double-double of 13 assists and 11 digs. Junior Angela Colonis (Waterford, Conn.) also had a double-double with 12 assists and 12 digs to go with six kills on .429 hitting. Sophomore Kate Stedrdonsky (Sea Girt, N.J.) came away with seven kills on .500 hitting and a couple of blocks.
EASTERN CONNECTICUT 3, WORCESTER STATE 1 – 27-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23
The teams split the first two sets by a 2-point margin before the Warriors took set three by three points and hung on for another 2-point win in set four.
First-year Brooke Praskievicz (Moodus, Conn.) had 11 kills, four aces and nine digs to lead Eastern Connecticut. Junior Taylor Smith (Bowie, Md.) hit .389 for 10 kills, while junior Paige Carlson (Milford, Conn.) also had 10 kills. Sophomore Liz Squier (Trevor, Wisc.) registered 26 assists and eight digs. Junior Cassie Parmelee (East Berlin, Conn.) had a team best 18 digs.
Worcester State received 13 kills on .706 hitting from Angela Colonis. She also had 16 assists and nine digs. Camryn Burgio (Quincy, Mass.) picked up a match best 21 digs. Sophomore Cassidy D'Esposito (Medford, N.Y.) chipped in with nine kills on .300 hitting.
DEAN 3, EASTERN CONNECTICUT 1 – 26-24, 25-19, 22-25, 25-22
The final match of the day was like the two previous with 34 ties and 16 lead changes in a lengthy four-setter.
Senior
Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) paced the Bulldogs attack with nine kills on .381 hitting, six blocks and four aces.
Janai Price had another solid match also with nine kills, 13 digs and three blocks.
Skylar Raskevitz led all players once again with an impressive 29 digs.
Bella Driscoll added 28 assists to her daily total.
Senior Paige Savitsky (Centereach, N.Y.) led the Warriors with 15 kills, four aces and 20 digs. Liz Squier tallied 31 assists and 23 digs. Sophomore Taylor Thompson (West Point, N.Y.) added 11 kills.
