Women's Volleyball Splits Road Tri-Match

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – September 10, 2022 – The Dean College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at a Saturday tri-match hosted by Massachusetts Maritime. The Bulldogs swept the Buccaneers 3-0 by scores of 25-17, 25-18 and 26-24. Dean was then defeated by Fisher 3-1 by scores of 24-26, 25-12, 25-15 and 25-14.  

Dean (2-4) plays at Mitchell on Tuesday before returning home on Thursday to host Mount Holyoke.

DEAN 3, MASS MARITIME – 25-17, 25-18, 26-24

Senior Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) had 14 kills on .481 hitting to lead all players in the match. Sophomore Emily Larouche (Agawam, Mass.) had six kills and 10 digs, while first-year Caitlin Cooper (Amherst, N.H.) chipped in with four kills. Junior setter Bella Driscoll (Plymouth, Mass.) tallied 28 assists. First-year Skylar Raskevitz (Easthampton, Mass.) had a match-high 20 digs.

Dean took an early 7-2 lead to begin the match. The Bucs responded to pull within a pair at 10-8. The Bulldogs then scored six unanswered to create separation. Dean later had another 6-0 run, which included a couple of kills from Albury, to take a 24-12 lead. The home team rattled off five points before an attack error ended the frame in favor of Dean 25-17.

The second set was back and forth until Dean used a 4-0 spurt to take a 13-10 lead. Dean held the lead for the remainder of the set to go on top 2-0 in the match.

In the third set, each team jockeyed for the lead. Mass Maritime was at set point, 24-23, when Dean scored three in a row on a kill by Emily Ball (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and two from Cooper to secure the 26-24 set victory and 3-0 match sweep.
 
FISHER 3, DEAN 1 – 24-26, 25-12, 25-15, 25-14

Sari Albury once again led the Bulldogs with six kills and three blocks. Emily Ball was second on the team with five kills and added 11 digs. Skylar Raskevitz dug up a team best 14 balls, while Emily Larouche and Jordan Herivaux (Pawtucket, R.I.) had 13 digs apiece.

The first set was back and forth with numerous ties and lead changes. With the score tied at 24-24, a Caitlin Cooper kill put Dean in front by one and then Raskevitz sealed the 26-24 win with an ace.

The Falcons responded with strong performances over the next three sets to win the match.  

Fisher took a 17-8 lead in the second and never looked back en route to the 25-12 triumph.

In the third set, Dean went in front 7-3, but Fisher went on a 12-3 run to take control of the frame and cruise to a 25-15 final.

The Falcons trailed early once again in the fourth but answered quickly. The Bulldogs kept the score close, trailing 11-10 at one point. Fisher used an 8-2 run to put the set out of reach and finished the match with six consecutive points to win the match.
