FRANKLIN, Mass. - September 1, 2022 - The Dean College field hockey team opened the 2022 season with a 4-0 loss to non-conference opponent UMass-Dartmouth. The game was Dean's first under the tutelage of new head coach 
Megan Baker.
The Corsairs got on the board first when Mya Amaral scored off a feed from Kylie Dias four minutes into the action. The Bulldogs defense kept the visitors in check throughout the rest of the first quarter and the teams entered the first break with the score 1-0. 
UMass Dartmouth struck for two goals in the second quarter with Dias adding an unassisted goal before Maggie McCafferty scored on an assist from Harley Hodge. 
The third quarter was scoreless. The Bulldogs threatened with some quality chances, but the Corsairs were able to turn those attempts away.
The visitors added a final tally in the fourth off a second goal from Dias, this one assisted by McCafferty. 
Dean played two goalkeepers in the game. 
Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, R.I.) started the game allowing three goals and making seven saves in 30 minutes of work. 
Gabbie Taynor (Newburyport, Mass.) came on at halftime and made five stops while allowing one goal. First-year 
Emma Mock (Tunkhannock, Pa.) also contributed with a defensive save. 
Dean is off until next Thursday when they host Framingham State at 4 p.m. UMass-Dartmouth travels to Simmons on SaturdayÂ
