Bulldogs Finish Season with 17-7 Win over Mitchell

FRANKLIN, Mass. - April 29, 2022 – The Dean College women's lacrosse team finished a record-setting season with a 17-7 victory over Mitchell College on Friday afternoon at Grant Field.

Dean posted numerous team and individual records throughout the season and finished with the program's best record of 6-10. Mitchell ends the season at 1-13.

The Bulldogs had 10 players in the scoring column with first-years Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, Mass.) and Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) leading the way with three goals apiece. Medeiros added 10 ground balls and four caused turnovers. Junior Maire Brown (Huntington, N.Y.) tallied two goals, two assists and 13 draw controls. Seniors Haley Custodio (North Providence, R.I.), first-year Rachel Conrad (Millis, Mass.) and junior Sierra Cardenas (Warwick, R.I.) each notched their first collegiate goal.  

Mitchell was led by sophomore Jessica Krupnikoff (Farmington, Conn.). She had two goals, an assist, nine ground balls and six caused turnovers. Junior Aizhane Glenn (West Haven, Conn.) also caused six turnovers to go with her first goal of the season. Senior Stephanie Costabile (Stamford, Conn.) and junior Bree Rudolph (Glendale, Ariz.) also found the back of the net for the first time this season.

Dean junior Jada Fields (Acushnet, Mass.) made 10 saves to earn the win and finish the season with a 6-8 record. Mitchell goalie Hannah Gomes (Groton, Conn.) had eight saves in the loss.

The Bulldogs took command from the opening draw and raced out to a 6-0 lead 4:08 into the contest. The first quarter would end with Dean on top 10-3.

In the second, Medeiros scored twice, while Gaunt and senior Jordyn McKenney (Nashua, N.H.) added single goals to push the Dean advantage to 14-3 after 30 minutes.

Each team scored twice in the third to make the score 16-5.

Conrad opened the scoring for Dean in the final quarter before Mitchell received goals from Glenn and Costabile to end the scoring at 17-7.
