Softball Earns Split at Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. - April 27, 2022 - The Dean College softball team earned a split at Nichols in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. Dean came from behind to take game one 6-5, but lost 8-0 in five innings in game two. 

Dean (5-22) will host Fisher for one game at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. Nichols goes to 12-18. 

GAME ONE - Dean 6, Nichols 5

The Bulldogs trailed 5-2 heading into the seventh when they erupted for four runs to take a 6-5 lead. Junior Gianna Bencivengo (White Plains, N.Y.) and first-year Shirley Chan (Kowloon, Hong Kong) each had RBI singles, while senior Bridget McDonough (North Reading, Mass.) knocked in the game-tying and game-winning runs with a double to left field. 

Senior Avellaka Arviso (Hemet, Calif.) shut the door with three groundouts in the bottom of the seventh to earn the complete game victory. 

Senior Miranda Seacord (Cambridge, N.Y.) went 3-for-3 with three runs and three stolen bases. Chan, Bencivengo and McDonough had two RBIs apiece. 

GAME TWO - Nichols 8, Dean 0

The home team scored on a ground out in the first to take a quick 1-0 lead. 

In the second, Nichols plated three runs on a couple of RBI doubles and an RBI single. 

The Bison would go on to score once in the third, twice in the fourth and once more in the bottom of the fifth to halt the game with an 8-0 win. 

The Bulldogs were held to four hits. Seacord had one and her fourth stolen base of the day to take the lead in the GNAC.  

Alyssa Oullette earned the win for Nichols with five shutout innings.
