WESTON, Mass. – April 14, 2022 – The Dean College softball team lost both ends of Thursday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader at Regis College. The Pride won game one 11-3 in five innings and earned the sweep with a 7-4 triumph in game two.
Dean (2-15, 1-7 GNAC) returns home tomorrow to host Simmons at 3 p.m. Regis (8-15, 4-4 GNAC) is off until next Wednesday when the Pride will host Lasell at 5 p.m.
GAME ONE – Regis 11, Dean 3 (5 inn.)
After a pair of scoreless innings, the Bulldogs struck first with three runs in the top of the third. Junior
Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) singled in senior
Miranda Seacord (Cambridge, N.Y.). Junior
Alex Marie (Danvers, Mass.) then knocked in a run with a single to right. Albury was brought home on a single by senior
Bridget McDonough (North Reading, Mas.) to give Dean a 3-0 lead.
Regis got two back in the bottom of the third on an Erin Murphy (Bedford, N.H.) sac fly and a Kayla Morrill (Lynn, Mass.) RBI single.
The Pride took a 4-3 lead in the fourth when Murphy hit a two-run single to center.
In the fifth, Regis scored seven times to end the game via an 8-run rule. First-year Madison Smith (Malden, Mass.) had a pinch-hit single that scored two, while Murphy added two more RBIs on a single up the middle. Junior Ciara Collins (Lynn, Mass.) secured the 11-3 victory for the Pride with a two-run single through the left side.
Junior Andria Braga (Rehoboth, Mass.) led six Pride batters who had at least two hits with three. Murphy finished with five RBIs.
Seacord and Marie each finished with a pair of hits for the Bulldogs. Seacord swiped her conference leading 16th bag of the season.
GAME TWO – Regis 7, Dean 4
Dean once again began the scoring in game two with a pair of runs in the second on RBI singles by junior
Jaylee Martinez (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Seacord.
Collins cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single.
Regis gained the lead in the third with four runs on two hits and an error.
The Bulldogs came within 5-4 after scoring twice in the sixth. Seacord drew a bases loaded walk and Marie followed with an RBI single.
The Pride got those two runs back in the bottom of the inning on an Abby Erickson (Worcester, Mass.) RBI double and a Murphy run-scoring single to help secure the 7-4 victory.
Collins and Murphy had three hits apiece for the Pride.
Alex Marie went 3-for-4, while Martinez and junior
Sarah Graeff (Petersham, Mass.) each had two hits for Dean.
