NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Dean College softball team wrapped up a week in North Myrtle Beach at the Fastpictch Dreams Spring Classic. The Bulldogs were edged by Norwich, 8-5, before ending the trip with an 11-7 victory over La Roche.
Dean (1-5) will resume action on Thursday, March 17 with a doubleheader at Bridgewater State.
NORWICH 8, DEAN 5
The Bulldogs held a 3-0 lead after scoring once in the second and two in the fourth.
Alex Marie knocked in
Miranda Seacord with a single in the fourth.
Norwich received a solo home run in the fourth before scoring five in the fifth and two in the sixth to go ahead 8-3.
Dean put a pair of runs across in the top of the seventh on a
Bridget McDonough single and an RBI double by
Shelby Smith, but the Cadets hung on for the 8-5 win.
Seacord finished 2-for-3 and scored three runs for the Bulldogs.
Sari Albury took the loss for Dean after tossing five innings. She gave up three earned runs on eight hits and struck out three.
DEAN 11, LA ROCHE 7
Sarah Graeff and
Alex Marie each knocked in a run in the 4-run second inning for the Bulldogs and they never looked back.
Dean scored runs in the nex four innings to put 11 on the board and held La Roche to seven to earn its first win of the season.
Seacord scored three runs for the second game in a row. Marie posted three hits in five at-bats, while
Shirley Chan and
Gianna Bencivengo each added two hits.
Shelby Smith was credited with the win with 4.1 IP, 4 ER, 9 H and 3 SO.
