WESTON, Mass. – February 5, 2022 – The Dean College men's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday at a tri-match hosted by Regis. The Bulldogs fell to Regis 3-0 and NVU-Johnson 3-0.
Dean goes to 0-3 after the first week of the season. The Bulldogs return to action next Saturday to host NVU-Johnson for a pair of matches beginning at noon.
Regis 3, Dean 0 – 25-15, 25-13, 25-9
Although Regis and Dean are both Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) members, today's match did not count towards the standings. The teams will meet again for conference matchups on Saturday, March 12 and Tuesday, March 15.
In the first set, the teams traded points early on before Regis went on top 12-8. Dean freshman
Corey Jackson (Fresno, Calif.) brought the Bulldogs within a pair, 13-11, after his second kill of the set. The Pride then took control and finished the set on a 12-4 run.
In the second, the score was tied at 3-3 until the home team rattled off three consecutive points. Leading 19-13, Regis used a 6-0 run to close the set and take a 2-0 advantage.
Regis raced out to a 10-3 lead in the third and never looked back. The Pride earned the 3-0 win behind 13 kills on .556 hitting.
Jackson and freshman
Rodrigo Monteiro (Praia, Cape Verde) each posted four kills to lead the Bulldogs. Monteiro added five digs, three assists and three blocks. Junior setter
Tyler Martins (East Providence, R.I.) finished with seven assists.
Matt Ferrera led Regis with 11 kills on .421 hitting. Joseph Perez added 10 kills on .615 hitting to go with eight digs.
NVU-Johnson 3, Dean 0 – 25-22, 25-19, 25-20
The first set was tied 11-11 when NVU scored the next three points. Dean later pulled within 22-20 after a kill by Martins. Monteiro then cut the deficit to 23-22 with a kill, but NVU put the next two points on the board to win 25-22.
In the second set, NVU went in front 4-0 before Dean rallied to score the next seven points, including a pair of Monteiro kills. The teams exchanged runs before a tie score at 16-16. The Badgers went on a 9-3 run to close the set, 25-19.
The third set was closely contested once again. NVU held a 15-13 lead and added to it with a 4-1 run, capped by a Moberg kill. An Anderson kill ended the set, 25-20, and the match in favor of NVU.
Monteiro led the Bulldogs with eight kills on .286 hitting. He added eight digs. Martins tallied nine assists and eight digs.
Zachary Anderson paced the Badgers' attack with 11 kills, while Wyatt Moberg hit .476 to finish with 10 kills.
