Dean Rolls to Season Opening Victory Over Curry, 82-44

FRANKLIN, Mass. – November 8, 2022 – The Dean College men's basketball team began the 2022-23 campaign with a convincing 82-44 triumph over Curry College in a packed Pieri Gymnasium Tuesday evening.

Dean (1-0) will play an exhibition game on Thursday at Division I Holy Cross. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. and can be views on ESPN+. Tickets are also available for purchase by visiting the men's basketball schedule page. Curry (0-1) hosts Framingham State on Thursday at 6 p.m. for a home opener with the Rams.

Junior AJ Weston (Kansas City, Mo.) led 10 Bulldogs in the scoring column with 19 points. Junior Jayden Madise (Palmdale, Calif.) made 7-fo-9 from the floor for 14 points, while junior Jakobi Greenleaf (Houston, Texas) and junior Dorien Ruffin (Pinetops, N.C.) added 10 points apiece. Junior Malik Spearman (St. Paul, Minn.) filled the stat sheet with seven points, a game-high nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and a couple of blocks.  

Curry received a team best nine points from junior Frankie Santiago Jr. (New Britain, Conn.). Freshman Shawn Charles (Miami, Fla.) chipped in with eight points on 4-of-4 shooting in 15 minutes off the bench.

Dean raced out to a 15-4 lead before Curry answered with the next seven points to cut the deficit to 15-11. The Bulldogs then took control to finish the half on a 26-8 run. Dean shot 51.5% (17-33) from the floor and held Curry to 30.8%. Greenleaf scored all 10 of his points in the half, while Weston had nine to lead the Bulldogs.

The home team carried the momentum into the second half and held a comfortable lead throughout. Dean scored 41 points again in the second on one more made basket than the first (18-34).

Dean ended the game with a 52-18 advantage in points in the paint and turned 21 Curry miscues into 20 points. The Bulldogs shot 52.2% for the game.
