Bulldogs Roll to 109-75 Win over UMaine-Augusta

FRANKLIN, Mass. – November 27, 2022 – Six Dean College men's basketball players scored in double figures in Sunday's 109-75 victory over the University of Maine at Augusta inside Pieri Gymnasium.

The 109 points marks the most for the Bulldogs since a 120-73 victory over Lesley on Feb. 19, 2020.

Dean (4-2) will begin December on the road with a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener at Rivier on Saturday at 3 p.m. UMaine-Augusta (3-6) returns home to host Great Bay CC on Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Junior AJ Weston (Kansas City, Mo.) led all players with 22 points. Junior Charles Walker (Princeton, N.C.) shot 6-6 from the floor to finish with 16 points in 16 minutes off the bench. Junior Jayden Madise (Palmdale, Calif.) registered 11 points, five steals and four rebounds, while junior Malik Spearman (St. Paul, Minn.) tallied 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Junior Nick Grant (Houston, Texas) and junior Dorien Ruffin (Pinetops, N.C.) had 10 points apiece.

UMaine-Augusta was led by senior Elijah Smith (Odessa, Texas). He scored 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Sophomore Zach Maturo (Standish, Maine) made 6-of-9 field goals for 14 points, while sophomore Yonas Medfu (Orlando, Fla.) added 13 points off the bench. Sophomore Trevor Beals (Lyman, Maine) finished with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Bulldogs took a 23-5 lead in the first eight minutes of the game and cruised the rest of the way. Weston poured in 17 points in the first half as the Bulldogs shot 60% from beyond the arc and turned 17 Moose miscues into 20 points.

Dean continued to shoot efficiently in the second half and made seven more three-pointers.

The home team finished the game 51.2% (43-84) from the floor and 50% from beyond the arc (13-26). Dean received 54 points from the bench and 34 points off turnovers.
