CHICOPEE, Mass. - October 8, 2022 - The Dean College women's soccer team fell at Elms College, 2-1, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday. 

Dean (1-7-3, 0-6-2 GNAC) will conclude a 4-game road swing with a Wednesday night match at Saint Joseph's College of Maine. Elms improves to 4-5-3 overall and 3-3-2 in the conference. 

Elms broke the scoreless tie with less than three minutes to play in the first half. Emily Maffuccio finished a pass from Emily Kibler to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. 

The home team doubled its advantage 15 minutes into the second frame on Elaina Vilar's first tally of the season. 

The Bulldogs cut the deficit in half in the 75th minute, but ran out of time to find the equalizer. Senior Elizabeth McGowan (Warwick, R.I.) set up sophomore teammate Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, Mass.) for her first collegiate goal. 

Dean sophomore goalie Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) kept the Bulldogs close with a season-high 17 saves. Angela Picheo made three saves in the win for the Blazers.
