THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – October 29, 2022 – The Dean College football team dropped an Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) road game to Maritime (N.Y.) 30-19 on Saturday afternoon.
Dean (1-7, 1-3 ECFC) returns home next Saturday to host Anna Maria at noon. Maritime (3-5, 2-2 ECFC) plays at Keystone on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Dean junior
Mozes Mooney (San Diego, Calif.) completed 9-of-24 passes for 198 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Junior running back
Holdan Wilson (Spanish Fort, Ala.) ran for 58 yards and a score. Junior
Jordan Mason (Stockbridge, Ga.) hauled in four catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns.
On the defensive side for the Bulldogs, first-year
Brandon Lane (Valdosta, Ga.) led all players with 12 tackles. Senior
Des Dias (Rochester, Mass.) was next with nine tackles.
Maritime quarterback Aidan Nunez went 26-of-42 for 405 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Tate Neiderer gobbled up 114 yards on the ground with two touchdowns and added a receiving score. Ian Derda led the pass catchers with eight receptions for 163 yards and a score.
The Bulldogs scored the first two touchdowns of the game and led 13-0 at the half.
Holdan Wilson had a 2-yard TD run and
Jordan Mason caught an 11-yard pass from Mooney both in the second quarter.
Maritime came out of the halftime break and put up 21 points in the third quarter. Neiderer and Derda had touchdown catches of 45 and 69 yards, respectively. Neiderer added a 2-yard run to cap the scoring in the third.
In the fourth, Neiderer tacked on to the Privateers' lead with a 3-yard scamper to make the margin 27-13 with 12:55 to play.
Dean answered, 17 seconds later, on a 61-yard catch and run by Mason. A failed two-point conversion kept the Maritime lead at 27-19.
The Privateers added a field goal for the final points of the contest as Maritime protected home field with the 30-19 victory.
