Field Hockey Drops Regular Season Finale to Simmons

FRANKLIN, Mass. – October 26, 2022 – The Dean College field hockey team was defeated by Simmons University, 8-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular season finale for both teams.

Dean finishes the 2022 campaign at 0-16 overall and 0-11 in just its second full season of GNAC competition. Simmons (14-2, 9-2 GNAC) will host a conference quarterfinal game on Saturday.

The Sharks received a pair of hat tricks from sophomores Sydney Gonyea (Lebanon, N.H.) and Anna Tedeschi (Hanover, Mass.). Gonyea finished the regular season with a team best 25 goals. Senior Haley Dover (West Springfield, Mass.) tallied the team's other two goals.

Dean's goal came from first-year Alisha Caldeira (Taunton, Mass.). Her first collegiate tally was assisted by first-year Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.).

Simmons scored three times in the first quarter with each goal coming from a different player.

After Gonyea put the Sharks on top 4-0 early in the second quarter, Dean got on the board to make the game 4-1. Ramos ran towards the end line and sent a scorching pass towards the goal mouth where Caldeira got her stick on the ball for the redirection into the back of the cage.

Tedeschi answered with her second goal of the contest to put the visitors on top 5-1 at the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, Simmons tacked on three goals in the fourth, scoring twice via the penalty stroke.

Dean junior goalie Mackenzie Fillion (New Bedford, Mass.) had seven saves in the loss. Senior Alex Marie (Danvers, Mass.) was credited with a defensive save. Simmons senior Sarah Arenberg (South Berwick, Maine) allowed one goal in the first 30 minutes to improve to 8-0 on the season. Senior Emma Sheehan (Taunton, Mass.) played the final 30 minutes for the Sharks.
