MILTON, Mass. - October 20, 2022 - The Dean College women's volleyball team avenged an earlier season loss to Curry this evening by sweeping the Colonels, 3-0, by scores of 25-13, 25-21 and 25-14.
Dean (4-20) returns home on Saturday for a conference tri-match against Emmanuel and Elms beginning at 11 a.m. Curry (4-19) hosts Suffolk tomorrow at 6 p.m.
Senior Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) led the Dean attack with eight kills on .412 hitting. Sophomore Emily Larouche (Agawam, Mass.) was next on the team with six kills. First-year Caitlin Cooper (Amherst, N.H.) hit .333 to finish with four kills. Junior Bella Driscoll (Plymouth, Mass.) finished with 19 assists and five aces. Senior Mandi Payne (Millis, Mass.) led all players with 18 digs.
The Colonels were led by an 8-kill effort from Lauren Guzman. Avia Fraine contributed eight digs and three aces. Brooke Reissfelder tallied 11 assists and seven digs.
Dean trailed 7-6 early in the first before using a 10-0 run to take command of the set. Cooper had four kills in the run. An Albury kill gave the Bulldogs a 23-12 lead. A couple of Curry errors resulted in the 25-13 first set final.
The Bulldogs once again trailed in the second, this time by a 10-4 margin. Dean chipped away to eventually tie the frame 16-16. Curry then held a 20-18 advantage, but Dean closed the set on a 7-1 run, capped by Larouche and Albury kills to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Dean carried the momentum into the third and went on top 8-2 and never looked back. Holding a 20-13 lead, the Bulldogs sprinted to the finish once again with a 5-1 run. The match clincher was a kill from sophomore Lena Muraski (Manchester, Conn.).
