Box Score FITCHBURG, Mass. - September 3, 2021 - The Dean College women's volleyball team was invovled in another close 3-1 match on Friday at Fitchburg State. The Falcons came away with the victory by scores of 25-22, 26-24, 22-25 and 25-21.
Dean (0-2) is back in action on Thursday at WPI. Fitchburg State goes to 1-1 and will host Curry on Tuesday.
With the first set tied at 14-14, the home team used an 8-2 run to take a comfortable lead. The Bulldogs fought back to pull within a pair at 24-22 thanks to kills from Anabella Driscoll (Plymouth, Mass.) and Emily Larouche (Agawam, Mass.). The Falcons got the next point to secure the 25-22 first set win.
The Bulldogs trailed 11-3 early in the second, but once again came back to make the score 15-13. The set went back and forth until the Falcons prevailed 26-24.
Dean took control of the third set and held a 19-12 advantage, but Fitchburg State rallied to take a 20-19 lead. The Bulldogs used a kill from Emily Ball (Feeding Hills, Mass.) to close out the set with a 25-22 win.
The Falcons led throughout the fourth set and won 25-21 to earn the 3-1 match victory.
Larouche and Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) each had nine kills to lead Dean. Albury did not have an error and hit an impressive .529. Larouche added 11 digs. Senior Amanda Payne (Millis, Mass.) registered a match high 22 digs.
Perry Joubert had a team-high 17 assists, while Emily Gelinas chipped in with 15 helpers for the Falcons. Sariah Dyer posted a match best 11 kills for the Falcons, while Lauren Riccardi added eight kills and five blocks.
