Box Score FRANKLIN, Mass. – September 26, 2021– The Dean College women's soccer team earned a 3-0 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over Anna Maria on Sunday afternoon at Grant Field to wrap up the Homecoming Weekend festivities.
Today marked the first time a soccer game has been played on the turf at Grant Field.
Dean improves to 1-3-2 overall and 1-3 in the GNAC. The Bulldogs travel to Simmons on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match with the Sharks. Anna Maria drops to 1-6-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the conference. The AMCATS host Regis on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs scored the opening goal 16 minutes into the contest. First-year Rachael Amatruda (Guilford, Conn.) escaped multiple Anna Maria defenders and ripped a shot into the left side of the net for her first collegiate goal.
Anna Maria had a chance for an equalizer in the final minute of the half on a penalty kick, but the try went wide to send Dean into the break on top 1-0.
Dean doubled its lead 1:04 into the second half on a goal from senior Miranda Seacord (Cambridge, N.Y.). She was set up on the play by Amatruda.
The Bulldogs added a third goal in the 70th minute when junior Janey Boldrighini (Fairfield, Conn.) sent a high-arching free kick from 30 yards out towards goal that deflected off the leaping goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
The Dean defense and first-year goalie Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) preserved the clean sheet allowing just two shots in the final 20 minutes. Gaunt earned her first collegiate win and shutout with an impressive 11 saves. Anna Maria goalie Rachel Matloff (Grafton, Mass.) had three saves in the loss.
