MILTON, Mass. - November 9, 2021 - Juniors
Mark Blair (Rosedale, N.Y.) and
Hunter Meyer (Taylor Mill, Ky.) each scored 23 points to lead the Dean College men's basketball team to an 85-73 road win at Curry.
Dean improves to 2-0 and will resume action next Monday against Lesley at 7 p.m. in Pieri Gymnasium. Curry goes to 0-1 and will travel to Framingham State tomorrow for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
Meyer shot 11-16 and grabbed nine rebounds, while Blair was 10-17 from the floor with a game best 14 rebounds for his second straight double-double. Senior
Nick Sampeck (Blanco, Texas) chipped in with 16 points and eight rebounds. Senior
Winston Bryan (Greensboro, N.C.) also reached double figures with 14 points.
Curry was led by sophomore JayQuan Leonard (Plymouth, Mass.) with 14 points. Todd Robinson Jr. (Brockton, Mass.) added 13 points, while Frankie Santiago (New Britain, Conn.) and Angelo Sardegna (Tampa, Fla.) each finished with 10 points.
Dean raced out to a 16-5 advantage and never looked back. They held a lead throughout the first half and with a Sampeck layup in the final moments, the Bulldogs took a 47-42 margin into halftime.
Dean increased its lead to 15 points after a
Traijan Powell (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) jumper, six minutes into the second. Curry knocked the deficit down to one possession with a Santiago layup with 4:20 minutes to play, 70-67, but Dean pushed back and widened the gap for the eventual 85-73 victory.
