Bulldogs Hang On For 66-64 Win at Fitchburg State

FITCHBURG, Mass. - November 20, 2021 – The Dean College men's basketball team was able to hang on for a 66-64 road win at Fitchburg State Saturday afternoon at Parkinson Gymnasium.
 
The Bulldogs improve to 4-1 and will host Worcester State on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Fitchburg State drops to 1-5 and will host WPI on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Dean received 19 points from junior Hunter Meyer (Taylor Mill, Ky.). He was 6-10 from the floor and 7-10 from the free throw line. Senior Winston Bryan (Greensboro, N.C.) added 17 points. Junior Mark Blair (Rosedale, N.Y.) pushed his double-double streak to five straight games with 14 points and 10 rebounds in today's game. 

Fitchburg State was led by Quincy Taylor who had a 21 points and 17 rebounds. Kerns Monvilus added another double-double with 17 points and 10 caroms.  

Dean scored the first two buckets of the game before the contest was tied at 9-9. The home team went in front 12-11, but the Bulldogs responded with a 9-0 run to take a 20-12 lead. Dean held a comfortable lead for the next few minutes before the Falcons closed the half with a 6-0 run to make the score 28-26 in favor of Dean at the break. 
 
The second half was back-and-forth with several ties and lead changes. Dean trailed 56-52, but a 5-0 spurt, with three points from junior Jonathon Larson (Oxnard, Calif.), put Dean on top 57-56. Dean later trailed 63-62, but a pair of Larson free throws and a Traijan Powell (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) layup gave the Bulldogs a 66-63 lead with 1:07 on the clock. The Falcons only mustered a free throw down the stretch as Dean held on for the 66-64 victory. 

The Bulldogs were outrebounded 52-36, but used 17 Fitchburg turnovers to score 19 points.
