Bulldogs Sweep Mass. Maritime for First Home Victory

Box Score FRANKLIN, Mass. – October 5, 2021– In front of a limited capacity crowd for the first time this season inside Pieri Gymnasium, the Dean College women's volleyball team used the energy to sweep Massachusetts Maritime, 3-0, Tuesday evening. The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-17. 25-10 and 25-15.

Dean improves to 3-10 overall after playing just its third home match of the season. The Bulldogs resume Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action tomorrow night a 6 p.m. at Saint Joseph's College of Maine. MMA falls to 1-15. The Bucs travel to Nichols for a noon match on Saturday.

Dean first-year middle Janai Price (Providence, R.I.) led all players with eight kills on .467 hitting. She added three aces. Junior Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) registered six kills on .312 hitting to go with seven aces and a couple of blocks. Sophomore Annabella Driscoll (Plymouth, Mass.) posted 10 assists and six digs.

MMA was led by a 5-kill effort from sophomore Ameena Freeman (Columbus, Ohio). Junior Izzy Miazga (Rocky Hill, Conn.) picked up a match best 13 digs.

In the first set, the Bulldogs benefited from great serving, primarily from Albury, Dean tallied seven aces in the frame with six coming off the serve of Albury. She also had three kills in the set to lift the home team to a 25-17 win in the first.

The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead by holding MMA to negative hitting for the second set in a row. Price and Albury had a block, while Price added four kills to her tally to help Dean win the set in convincing fashion, 25-10.

Dean carried the momentum into the third and cruised to the sweep with a 25-15 triumph. The team added four more aces to their tally to give them 12 for the match. Price added three kills in the set as the Bulldogs hit .240 and totaled nine kills in the final stanza. Freeman had three of the Bucs' five kills in the set.
