FRANKLIN, Mass. – October 27, 2021 – The Dean College field hockey team was defeated by Anna Maria, 5-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) season finale for both teams.
Prior to today's game, seniors
Kat Conforti (Warwick, R.I.),
Stephanie Conrad (Bedford, N.H.),
Valerie Cronick (Bayonne, N.J.) and
Jordyn McKenney (Nashua, N.H.) were honored for their years of dedication to Dean College and the field hockey program.
Dean finishes the year at 1-14 overall and 1-10 in its first year with the GNAC. Anna Maria improves to 5-12 overall and slides up into a tie for the last playoff spot with a record of 3-8.
In rainy and windy conditions at Grant Field, neither team was able to find the back of the cage in the first 15 minutes of action.
Anna Maria got on the board 3:37 into the second quarter when junior Meghan Sonia (West Tisbury, Mass.) notched her fourth goal of the season.
Sonia was at it again in with less than four minutes to play in the half. Off a penalty corner, senior Chayna Bingham-Hendricks (Mashpee, Mass.) found Sonia who ripped a shot from a few yards out past everyone into the back of the cage.
The AMCATS added a third goal in the third off the stick of sophomore Eden Forget (Worcester, Mass.).
In the fourth, Forget added her ninth goal of the season, while Bingham-Hendricks got in the scoring column with her fifth tally of the year.
Junior
Zoe Coleman (Warwick, R.I.) added to her team leading total of defensive saves with two more at today's game to give her seven on the season.
Dean sophomore goalie
Gabbie Taynor (Newburyport, Mass.) worked the first half and gave up two goals with three saves. Sophomore
Mackenzie Fillion (New Bedford, Mass.) allowed three goals and made six saves in the second half. Anna Maria goalie Chloe Giordano (Revere, Mass.) got her first win of the season.
