FRANKLIN, Mass. – October 20, 2021 - The Dean College men's soccer team fell in double overtime, 2-1, to Johnson & Wales in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) meeting Wednesday afternoon at Lippert Field.
Dean falls to 3-11 overall and 2-8 in the GNAC. The Bulldogs host Emmanuel on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The team will celebrate senior day. JWU has won six straight to improve to 12-3 overall and 8-2 in the standings. The Wildcats play at the University of Saint Joseph on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The Bulldogs got on the board first with sophomore
Christian Sayue's (Providence, R.I.) first collegiate tally. The play was set up by sophomore
Kazu Noguchi (Hyogo, Japan).
Dean took a 1-0 lead into the break, despite being outshot 12-2.
The Wildcats eventually converted one of their chances, less than five minutes into the second frame. Senior Nick Gutenkunst (East Northport, N.Y.) finished a corner kick by Ricky Africo (North Providence, R.I.) to knot the game at 1-1.
After the teams played the final 40 minutes of regulation and the first 10-minute overtime session without scoring, the game came to an end 4:03 into the second overtime. Gutenkunst was in front of the net in traffic when he received a pass from Austin Sweeney (Nutley, N.J.). Gutenkunst was able to beat the Dean keeper for the game-winner and notch his sixth goal of the season.

Bryce Antoch (Cranston, R.I.) made seven saves, while Jacob Friedman (Woodland Hills, Calif.) allowed one goal.
Johnson & Wales had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
