THE LEAD:
Despite 26 points and 14 rebounds from sophomore star Makayla Rudder (Springfield, Mass.) the Dean College Bulldogs were upended on the road by Mitchell College 92-64 on Tuesday in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action in New London, Conn. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Mitchell scored 12 of the final 14 points of the first quarter to turn an 11-11 game into a 23-13 gap at the end of the period.

The Mariners continued their torrid pace early in the second quarter, extender their lead to 34-17 midway through the second frame. 

The two squads traded hoops for much of the third quarter, before a short Dean run led by two Rudder baskets cut the deficit to 14 at 59-45. Mitchell responded with 10 straight points to extend their advantage to 69-45 with under a minute to go in the third period.

The Bulldogs held their own in the fourth quarter, but could not mount a comeback, falling 92-64. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Rudder's 26 points and 14 rebounds led all players in both categories.  Alexah Potter (East Hartford, Mass.) pitched in 21 points and seven rebounds while Stephanie Conrad (Bedford, N.H.) scored nine points on three three pointers.
