THE LEAD:
Kyle Lameiras (Attleboro, Mass.) scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 78th minute and Dean College knocked off host Becker College, 2-1, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Lameiras actually had a hand in the Bulldogs' first goal when he delivered a great pass to Davonn Smith (Lowell, Mass.) who deposited his second goal of the season into the back of the net for a 1-0 Dean advantage less than eight minutes into the contest.
Becker was able to even the score when Isaiah McCaskill converted a penalty kick for his sixth marker of the year at 17:32.
Things stayed that way until Aaron Rivers (Punta Gorda, Fla.) sent a ball into the box from the right side that Lameiras was able to head between to defenders to gain control of and then sent a rocket past a diving Sam Majewski for a 2-1 edge at 77:04.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
The Hawks held a brief edge in total shots, 15-14 but Dean had a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Bryce Antoch (Cranston, R.I.) registered four saves in net to secure his fourth win of the season.
UP NEXT:
Dean will step out of league play this week when they travel to Framingham State on Wednesday and then host Maine-Farmington on Saturday.
