THE LEAD:
New England College freshman, Kayla Paquin found the back of the net less than ten minutes into the contest and the Pilgrims made that strike stand up as they escaped with a 1-0 win over Dean College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.
The win by NEC spoiled senior day for the Bulldogs' two four year starters – Megan Moore (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Macy Parisee (East Freetown, Mass.) – who were honored in a pregame ceremony.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After Paquin put the Pilgrims on the board, not many scoring attempts came about until the final minutes when Dean had several chances to find the equalizer, but the ball never bounced their way.
Jane Boldrighini (Fairfield, Conn.) had five straight corner kicks spanning the 87th and 88th minutes. Her fourth attempt curled through traffic and deflected off of the forearm of NEC netminder Emily Shasko. Her next corner attempt sailed into the box and found Ali Nelson (Candia, N.H.), but her header breezed over the top of the crossbar.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
New England College held a 15-9 edge in shots and a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks. Parisee turned aside seven shots in her 90 minutes in goal - sending her career total to over 550.
UP NEXT:
Dean is back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Elms College for a 7:00 PM first touch.
