THE LEAD:
Dean College used a monster fourth quarter to pull away from host Elms College and post a convincing 67-43 win over the Blazers in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's basketball action on Sunday afternoon.

The win for the Bulldogs is not only their third straight, but inches them closer to a regular season conference crown as they now sit just a half of a game behind first-place Newbury College.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Elms actually held a six point first quarter lead but after Dean evened the score at the end of the first, they outscored the Blazers 17-7 in the second period.

Shannon Rosensteel (Sunrise, Fla.) was a huge part of the Bulldog offense in the frame as she scored ten of the team's 17 points while singlehandedly outscoring Elms in the process. And when Morgan Turner (Winter Park, Fla.) knocked down a three-pointer in the waning second of the half, Dean went in front 27-17.

The Bulldogs continued their offensive attack in the second half and when Rosensteel registered back-to-back baskets midway through the third quarter, Dean seemed to be in control with a 41-25 advantage.

Elms came to life, however, as the quarter wore on and closed the period on an 11-0 run that was capped by a Rachel Granger three-pointer that made the score 41-36 to start the fourth.

Any offensive issues the Bulldogs had as the third quarter closed out, they were rectified as the fourth quarter began. They outscored Elms 26-7 – with 12 of those points coming from Iindia Pina (Carver, Mass.), who also picked up four steals as the Blazers committed 12 turnovers in the ten minute period.

Dean was only in front by nine at 50-41 with a little more than three minutes left when a Pina steal and finish ignited a game-ending 17-2 run and was part of stretch that saw the Blazers make one basket over the final 5:21 of the contest.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
The stat that stood out the most was the turnover line, where Elms committed 31 miscues that led to 38 Dean points. In addition to that glaring total, the Bulldog reserves – led by Pina and Rosensteel – outscored the Blazer backups, 47-10.

Rosensteel finished with a game-best 24 points, while Pina totaled 16 points and six steals. Three other Bulldogs, including Turner (eight rebounds, five assists), Sophia Corbitt (seven rebounds, three assists) and Emma Morrison (five rebounds, three steals, two blocks) all ended with seven points.

UP NEXT:
The Bulldogs will begin a busy final week of the season with a home contest on Tuesday against Lesley University, where they will honor their four seniors with a pregame ceremony. Tipoff is slated for a little after 7:00 PM.
