THE LEAD:
Becker College scored two second half goals, including the game-winning strike in the 80th minute from Kyra Teixeira to escape a near upset by an upstart Dean College squad, posting a 2-1 victory in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer action on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Bulldogs jumped on the visitors almost immediately as Megan Moore (Clifton Park, N.Y.) connected with Miranda Seacord (Cambridge, N.Y.) for Seacord's team-leading eighth goal of the season.
That tally stood as the match's lone score until opening minutes of the second half when Lindsey Keith (Sutton, Mass.) scored her league-leading 23rd goal of the season with help from Skyler Tenney (Old Lyme, Conn.) at 46:17.
Teixeira then recorded the go-ahead goal at 79:20 when Alyson Eldridge (Dummerston, Vt.) touched a pass to her and she fired a blast into the upper right corner over the outstretched arms of Dean netminder Macy Parisee (East Freetown, Mass.).
The Bulldogs did have a chance to even the score when Ali Nelson (Candia, N.H.) sent a shot into the box that looked as if it would connect with Allison Buckley (Guilford, Vt.) but Hawk netminder Lyndsey Cobb-Wilkins (Elmira, N.Y.) was able to get her hand on it and knock it away in the 86th minute.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Becker held a 19-3 edge in shots and a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks. Parisee was stellar in defeat for the Bulldogs, collecting eight saves, while Cobb-Wilkins only needed to make one save to secure the shutout and her fifth win of the season.
UP NEXT:
Both teams will return to action on Tuesday with conference road games. Dean travels to New England College while the visit Southern Vermont.
