Box Score 2 UNIONTOWN, PA.- A dominant third quarter perormance powered the Dean College Bulldogs to a 75-61 victory over Alfred St. in the USCAA consolation round. The Bulldogs took a three point halftime lead and extended it to 15 by the end of the third, holding on for a 14 point win.
Chelsea Johnson led Dean with 31 points. She played all 40 minutes, shooting 12-31 from the field and 6-16 from three point range. The Bulldogs got double digit points from 3 other starters, as well. Fataya Larry had 12 points and 11 rebounds, Denisha Gardener had 11 points and 19 rebounds, and Iinda Pina had 11 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals, and 4 assists. Dana Jackson had 7 points and 6 assists off the bench.
Dean led 20-16 after one, and 36-33 at halftime. A 22-10 advantage in the third quarter broke the game open. Dean went on a 20-8 over the first 8 minutes of the period, punctuated by great defense and easy layups. Johnson's three pointer at 3:09 gave the Bulldogs a 52-41 lead, and a layup from Pina off a steal from Jackson balooned the lead to 56-41.
The Bulldogs stretched their lead to over 20 in the fourth quarter, but a scrappy finish from Alfred St. diminshed the final lead to 14.
Dean shot 35% from the field and 26% from three. They out rebounded Alfred 52-51, and scored 28 points off turnovers to Alfred's 8.
The Bulldogs finish their season 22-8, winners of 9 of their last 10.
