Franklin, MA- The Dean College softball team fell in their final series of the season to Mitchell College. The Bulldogs fell in game one by a score of 12-3 and game two by a score of 5-2. With the pair of losses, Dean finishes the season with a 9-21 (2-14) record.
Before the series, the Dean College Department of Athletics & Recreation recognized the three seniors on the softball roster:
Alyssa Ribarovski (Sydney, Australia),
Katie Splaine (Tyngsborough, MA), and
Jessica Stewart (Banks, OR).
Game One: Mitchell College 12, Dean College 3
In the series opener, Mitchell would grab the lead first from an RBI double. However, Dean would follow-up in the bottom of the third, tying the game off a single from
Katrina Lee (Brookline, NH) that forced an error.
Natalie Hayes (Brewster, NY) would score as a result. However, the Mariners would open the flood gates in the fourth inning, going on to score 11 unanswered runs through the seventh. A three-run, home run would end the rallying from Mitchell.
The Bulldogs would score two more runs in the bottom half. An RBI single from
Emily Kilpatrick (Marion, MA) would bring in one, and after quick work on the base paths, she would steal home to score another. However, it would not be enough, as the Bulldogs would fall by a final score of 12-3.
Bryce DeGasparre (Attleboro, MA) took the loss in the circle for Dean.
Game Two: Mitchell College 5, Dean College 2
The second game opened in similar fashion. Mitchell would jump ahead on Hayes, who was now pitching. After loading the bases, Hayes would plunk a batter, allowing a run, followed by another via walk. However, despite the tough start, the Bulldogs dug deep and quickly responded. DeGasparre would run into a groundout, allowing
Ari Amaral (Attleboro, MA) to score.
The score would remain the same until the fifth inning. Alas, it would be Mitchell again breaking the score open, scoring another in the frame and then two more in the sixth. Even with an RBI single from
Madison Nereu (Wareham, MA), scoring
Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, MA), the Bulldogs were unable to come back. They fell in game two by a final score of 5-2. Hayes would take the loss in the circle for the Bulldogs while going 2-4 offensively. Ramos also recorded a 2-4 game two performance.
