FRANKLIN, Mass. - The Dean College Athletics Department recently held its annual Student-Athlete Awards Ceremony.

Outstanding Senior Athlete Award: Each year is given to two senior student-athletes who have demonstrated outstanding athletic ability over the course of their entire career. The recipient of this award will be nominated by a coach and then selected by the Athletic Advisory Council. The award is based solely on athletic talent, ability, attitude, performance, and success. It is a token of hard work, good judgment, understanding, and determination. 

Nominees: Diego Alvarez-Segee (Lacrosse), Ty Benedetto (Lacrosse), Seth Cruz (Baseball), Jordan Mason (Football), Luke Palmer (Soccer), AJ Weston (Basketball)

Winner: Diego Alvarez-Segee (Lacrosse)















Nominees: Sari Albury (Volleyball/Softball), Mackenzie Fillion (Field Hockey/Lacrosse), Jazzy Sztyler-Magee (Soccer/Lacrosse)

Rookie of the Year: This award is presented to two student-athletes who are recognized by the College community for superior athletic ability and outstanding contribution to their team, in addition to, demonstrating the qualities associated with good sportsmanship.

Nominees: Manny Alvarez-Segee (Lacrosse), Luis Castillo (Volleyball), Ciaran Phibbs (Soccer), Kevin Smith Jr. (Football), Nathan Suncar (Baseball)

Winner: Manny Alvarez-Segee (Lacrosse)


Nominees: Kacie Consolini (Soccer), Deanna Dice (Volleyball), Emily Kilpatrick (Field Hockey/Softball), Emma Mock (Lacrosse), Kokoro Okada (Cross Country)

Peter Hexter '66 Campus Involvement Award: This award is presented to two student-athletes who demonstrate a commitment to academics and athletics and is actively involved in Athletic Department leadership opportunities, community service, and other campus activities.

Nominees: Alisha Caldeira (Lacrosse), Bella Driscoll (Volleyball), Mackenzie Fillion (Field Hockey/Lacrosse), Lila Maiato (Soccer)

Winner: Mackenzie Fillion (New Bedford, Mass.)


Nominees: Ryan Bell (Soccer), Domenic Brazeau (Baseball), Arthur Felicio (Volleyball), Berto Maldonado (Football), Nick Ricci (Lacrosse)

John Jackson Sportsmanship Award: Given in honor of former Director of Athletics, John Jackson, the award is presented annually to a student-athlete who has earned the respect of fellow student-athletes, coaches, and administration for superior athletics and for continually demonstrating those qualities associated with good sportsmanship.

Nominees: Bella Driscoll (Volleyball), Kyle Ingram (Lacrosse), Reinorf Kusi (Soccer), Graham Marshall (Baseball), Nina Medeiros (Soccer/Lacrosse), Harlan Nichols (Basketball), Jalen Smith (Football)

Winner: Reinorf Kusi (Soccer)


Comeback Player of the Year: This award is presented to a student-athlete who was injured during athletic competition and through hard work and rehabilitation, returned to athletic competition and played at a competitive level.

Winners: Berto Maldonado (Football), Emma Mock (Field Hockey/Lacrosse)



Dr. Karen L. Sykes Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Award: Presented to a pair of graduating student-athletes who achieved the highest-grade point average while participating in varsity athletics.

Winners: Jilian Glynn (Softball), Ryan Bell (Soccer)



The Dean Difference Award: This award is presented to a student who is not a student-athlete, but through their efforts and dedication behind the scenes makes a positive contribution to the intercollegiate athletics program.
