FRANKLIN, Mass. – April 28, 2024 – The Dean College softball team dropped both ends of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader finale to Johnson & Wales (JWU) on Sunday. JWU won 11-1 and 14-0 in five innings.
Dean ends its season at 3-29 overall, 1-15 in all GNAC games and 1-13 in the South Division. Johnson & Wales (20-18, 14-4 GNAC, 11-3 South) earned a spot in the postseason next week.
GAME ONE – JWU 11, Dean 1 (5 inn.)
The Wildcats struck first with four unearned runs in the second inning. Junior Mackenzie Clee (Warminster, Pa.) had the big hit with a 2-run double to the gap.
In the third inning, JWU plated six runs for a 10-0 lead. Freshman Jessica Forneiro (King's Park, N.Y.), sophomore Jillian Reed (Burlington, N.J.) and Clee each had 2-run hits.
The visitors added a run in the fourth when Clee drew a bases loaded walk.
The Bulldogs got on the board in the fifth when sophomore
Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.) knocked in a run with a double to left center.
Clee earned the win with three innings of work with one hit allowed and five strikeouts.
Junior
Alyssa Ribarovski (Sydney, Australia) and senior
Meredith Landers (Littleton, Mass.) also had hits for Dean.
GAME TWO – JWU 14, Dean 0 (5 inn.)
The Wildcats began game two with four runs in their first at-bat. Junior Caroline Amorelli (Winslow, N.J.) and sophomore Mady Lyons (Prior Lake, Minn.) each had a 2-run double to the outfield.
JWU scored six times on five hits and three errors in the second to take a commanding 10-0 lead.
The Wildcats added two in the third on back-to-back RBI doubles from senior Hailey Erickson (Calimesa, Calif.) and Amorelli.
JWU tacked on a couple of runs in the fifth for the 14-0 win.
Amorelli finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs to lead the Wildcats.
Landers had a double for Dean, while junior
Katie Splaine (Tyngsborough, Mass.) also had a hit.
