FRANKLIN, Mass.- Peter Stathakis has been hired as the head coach for the Dean College men's JV basketball team.
Stathakis comes to Dean after spending after a long history in Massachusetts basketball. His coaching career began upon graduation from Western New England University in 2007, spending 2 years as an assistant coach with the Golden Bears. After that, he coached at Mt. Ida with (current Dean assistant coach Rico Cabral), coaching (current Dean head coach) Joe Cabral from 2010-12.
Since Mount Ida, Peter has helped coach local teams in spring and summer leagues such as teams from Bishop Feehan and King Philip Regional High School, as well as AAU powerhouse Middlesex Magic. Peter has spent his last few years being a basketball official in the ISL and the Bay State League as well as other leagues around Massachusetts.
Stathakis grew up in North Attleboro, MA and is a graduate of Bishop Feehan High School in 2003. He graduated from Western New England in 2007 with a degree in Sports Management and was a member of the varsity basketball team under coach Mike Theulen. Peter was a part of WNEC's 2007 ECAC Champtionship squad on a team that went 22-8 and 14-2 in GNAC conference play. The 2007 team was a nationally ranked defense in multiple defensive categories.
He lives in nearby Wrentham with his wife, Meghan, and two children Jason and Sophia.
