NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - March 5, 2023 - The Dean College softball team opened its season on Sunday with a pair of games at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in North Myrtle Beach. The team will play a total of eight games during the trip that covers four days.
The Bulldogs (0-2) fell to New Jersey City 10-0 (5 inn.) and Gwynedd Mercy 13-5 (6 inn.). Dean is slated to play Lancaster Bible and Wilkes on Monday.

Dean plated the first two runs of the game in the top of the third. Senior
Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) tripled in senior
Alex Marie (Danvers, Mass.). Albury came around on a single by junior
Jilian Glynn (Londonderry, N.H.).
The Griffins answered with three runs in the bottom of the third and then erupted for six runs in the fourth to take a 9-2 advantage.
The Bulldogs got a couple back in the fifth on a two-run blast over the left field wall by Albury.
Gwynedd Mercy responded once again with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth.
After first-year
Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.) singled in senior
Jaylee Martinez (Pawtucket, R.I.) for Dean in the top of the sixth, the Griffins scored twice in the bottom half to end the game 13-5.
Albury, Ramos and Glynn each finished with a pair of hits to lead the Bulldogs at the plate.
NEW JERSEY CITY 10, DEAN 0
The Gothic Knights scored a run in the first, five in the second, one in the third and three in the fourth to account for the 10-0 run in five innings.
Sophomore
Jessica Stewart (Banks, Ore.) registered the lone hit for the Bulldogs and added a couple of stolen bases.
Shirley Chan (Kowloon, Hong Kong) also had a couple of stolen bases after reaching on a walk.
