Softball Falls in Doubleheader at Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. - April 3, 2022 - The Dean College softball team lost both games of a doubleheader on Sunday, falling 8-0 and 9-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play at Anna Maria. 

In the first game, Anna Maria erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning, breaking open a 1-0 game and leading to an 8-0 victory. Zoe Coleman (Warwick, R.I.) took the loss for the Bulldogs, going 3.1 innings and allowing three earned runs on seven hits. Miranda Seacord (Cambridge, N.Y.) led Dean with three hits, while Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) added two. 

Dean jumped out to a quick lead in the second game, scoring two runs in the top of the first off RBI singles from Gianna Bencivengo (White Plains, N.Y.) and Bridget McDonough (North Reading, Mass.).The AMCATS responded with five in the bottom of the frame, taking control of the game. The hosts added a single run in the second, third, fifth, and sixth innings to cruise to a 9-2 victory. 

Jessica Stewart (Banks, Ore.) took the loss for Dean, surrendering four earned runs on seven hits over three innings. Shelby Smith (Southwick, Mass.) came on in relief and allowed two earned runs over the final three innings. 

The Bulldogs fell to 1-10 on the year and 0-4 in the GNAC. Dean is back in action on Wednesday with a home doubleheader against Simmons. The games are slated for 3 and 5 p.m.
