Jaylianne Ramos finished with a monster double-double of 16 kills and 16 digs and third-seeded Elms College defeated sixth-seeded Dean College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's volleyball tournament action on Tuesday evening.
The win for the host Blazers sets up a semifinal showdown at the tournament's second seed, New England College, on Thursday night. Dean, meanwhile, sees their season end at 7-19 under first-year head coach Joe Hanrahan.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After Elms took the opening frame, 25-10, they used an impressive second set – totaling 15 kills and just one error – to grab a commanding 2-0 edge.
The Bulldogs had their best set of the match in the final frame, pushing the Blazers by getting nine kills, but in the end, it wasn't enough as Elms wrapped up the match, 25-18.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Playing in her final match for Dean, senior Kait Anderson (Clinton, Conn.) ended with a team-best eight kills and six digs, while classmate Melanie Rios-Nevarez (Vega Alta, Puerto Rico) doled out 12 assists to go along with four kills and four digs.
The future looks bright for the Bulldogs, however, with the expected return of Amanda Payne (Millis, Mass.), Miranda Marquez (San Pedro, Calif.) and Sadie Homer (South Easton, Mass.) for the 2020 season.
