THE LEAD:
Miranda Seacord
(Cambridge, N.Y.) registered three first half goals and visiting Dean College secured the eighth and final New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) tournament spot with convincing 4-0 win over Newbury College in women's soccer action on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Dean looked as if it might get on the board early on but Alison Nelson (Candia, N.H.) saw her penalty kick bang off the left post.

A little more than a minute later, however, Nelson set up Seacord for the game's first tally at 9:15.

That lead doubled when Seacord found the back of the net for her tenth goal of the season this time with help from Allison Buckley (Guilford, Vt.) at 19:06.

Seacord then completed the natural hat trick in the 39th minute when Nelson assisted on her 11th strike of the season.

The only scoring in the second half came courtesy of Nelson at 54:32.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Dean held a 20-11 advantage in shots, while netminder Macy Parisee (East Freetown, Mass.) collected seven saves to record her first shutout of the season.

UP NEXT:
The Bulldogs will face the conference's No. 1 seed Lesley University on Saturday, October 27 at a time and location to be determined.
