Lemont Furnace, Pa. – The Dean College women's basketball dynamic duo of Iindia Pina (Carver, Mass.) and Makayla Rudder (Springfield, Mass.) were honored on Wednesday evening by being named to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) All-America Teams.
Pina earned first-team honors, while Rudder grabbed second-team accolades following a 2018-19 campaign that saw that twosome emerge as one of the most feared tandems in the region.
For Pina, the honor buts a bow on an impressive senior season that saw her eclipse the 1,000-point plateau, finish second in the league in scoring (18.0), lead the conference in steals (4.2) and reach double figures in 20 of the 23 games she played in.
Pina topped 20 points 11 different times in 2018-19 and was named the league's player of the week in early February.
During a stretch in mid-January she went over 20 points six straight times, including pumping in a career-high 31 in a narrow setback against Newbury.
Rudder, meanwhile, was the dominant force most expected her to be from the moment she arrived on campus. She finished the regular season third in league in scoring (18.0) and fifth in rebounding (10.0) while registering 12 double-doubles.
A five-time NECC Rookie of the Week selection, Rudder eclipsed the 20-point barrier ten times and was in double figures in 23 of the 25 games she played in – all starts.
She had arguably her best game when the Bulldogs needed her most, dropping in a career-high 34 points to go along with 13 points and six steals as Dean secured a huge road win over eventual regular season league champion New England College.
Rudder had other monster performances as well, including 19 points and 15 rebounds in her first collegiate contest against Smith, 17 points and 21 rebounds against Bay Path and 29 points, nine rebounds and four steals in a huge win over Newbury.
