Dean College won for the sixth time in their last eight games and the host Bulldogs rolled past Bay Path University 81-20 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's basketball action on Senior Day Saturday afternoon.
Prior to the start of the contest the program honored its three senior student-athletes playing in their final home contest – Jamaya Cleveland (Greensboro, Ga.), Iindia Pina (Carver, Mass.) and Amanda Miressi (New Rochelle, N.Y.).
For Pina, the day brought extra meaning as she eclipsed the 1,000-point barrier with eight first quarter points.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The contest was never in doubt as the Bulldogs held a 21-5 advantage after the first quarter and only allowed two points in the second quarter as they went into intermission with a comfortable, 41-7 edge.
Things didn't change much in the final 20 minutes as Dean continued its offensive efficiency, outscoring the Wildcats 22-8 in the third period.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
The hosts controlled the interior, outscoring the Wildcats 48-4 in the paint, forced 29 turnovers, turning them into 37 points.
For the game, Dean shot 50 percent from the field and led by as many as 62 in the fourth quarter.
Makayla Rudder (Springfield, Mass.) continued her stellar play as of late, ending with 16 points, four rebounds and four steals in just 17 minutes.
Pina actually led all scorers with 20 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals, while both Cleveland (10) and Miressi (11) joined them in double figures.
With their regular season now complete, the Bulldogs will await their postseason seeding which is set to be released on Sunday afternoon.
